My Journey in EDU 106

LGBT Discrimination in the Workplace

2019 Supreme Court Case

If someone needs to express their gender in a way that is different, that is okay, and they should not be denied healthcare. They should not be bullied. They don’t deserve to be victims of violence. - Laverne Cox

In this class my goal was to create an Ignite Talk, something that sparks questioning in someone's mind and make them want to create change in today's world. My professor truly believe learning works best when you the learner own the space of learning, control your identity and make better connections

This class also fulfills the technology fluency requirement of Southern Connecticut State University Liberal Education Program. Beyond showing off a slice of my identity this portfolio serves as an assessment of my growth as a learner. When I first started this class I had no idea on how to edit a video nor edit my own website & this portfolio shows my growth

Your Ignite Talk

For my ignite talked i surveyed my fellow peers on their opinion on whether or not someone should get fired based on their sexual identity. Back in October the Supreme Court heard a case of 3 LGBTQ members, where they stated that they were terminated because of their sexual identity, one was gay woman and a gay man, and the other was a transgender woman. The Supreme Court has not made a decision yet until June 2020. In my ignite talk I not only inform my peers on the case but i also talk on how we can make a change so everyone can be treated equal in the workplace.

Once you have a caption file you add that to the file as well. I am still making my captions so I will add to the tutorial.

Your Survey Data

My survey consisted of 8 questions. What is your gender? 13 males, 25 males, and 1 non-binary What is your age? 15 under 18, 20 for 18-24, 2 for 25-34, 2 for 34-44 What is your race? 16 Hispanic, 10 black, 5 white, 1 European, 3 bi-racial, 2 Asians, 1 Middle-Eastern Are you religious? 21 no, 18 yes And the 4 to the left. These four questions on the right where chosen to show diversity in the results of the survey. The quantity of minorities that answered the survey was more than 75% of everyone who answered. This also shows diversity in the results of the survey. Minorities experience discrimination everyday; therefore, they can relate, and they have also fought to achieve equality in the workplace. The findings of the survey shows many people believe in equality in the workplace. Most people in America just want to go to work to make a decent living, and no one should be worried about getting fired based simply on who they are. This will be setting back the US decades. This is unjustifiable and violates human civil rights.
